Hi all, this is a little painting I did yesterday…..while sitting at doctors for 5 hours waiting to get in. You don’t know how happy I was to have my iPad! It was really just to pass time, however I like the way it was developing & the lighting gave me a good opportunity to do a tutorial. I decided on some backlighting was a great compliment, so added some rim light & subsurface scattering through her hair….one person mentioned it looks like she’s glowing…..which she pretty much is! I touch on this in the tutorial, hope you enjoy viewing & don’t forget to subscribe.

Sculpting in Painter 2017
As you guys know, I’m a firm believer in learning & studying regardless of how experienced you are. I’m currently doing form studies, particularly the human form (it’s always been the subject that I find most challenging) in between working on Fabulous Ferdi. Sculpting is the method from which we really are able to build form, so I’m working totally line & sketch free…Big brushes zoomed out with greyscale, no details (hair, clothes, Jewell’s etc) This forces me to use edges, these show the change in facial planes & provide contrast without the need of high contrasting values. I will paint this woman/girl over & over, the aim is to work on previous versions issues & see the progress from repeated study of same subject. While doing this I’ve begun developing a set of sculpting brushes for Painter 2017, however most will work with previous versions. They will be a set for both concept & portrait artists alike, tailored to produce clean edges & a couple of blenders to soften where smoother gradiation is needed. They & other sets will be available for purchase in a few months, once I’ve upgraded my site with a shop. Happy Sculpting! ☺️Day 1 – Form study challenge
