Happy Painting  ❤️ LION ART

The journey

Explore, challenge, grow…..This is what I try to achieve with each piece I paint. Exploring new styles, tools, subjects….Challenging myself with composition, lighting, textures & subject matter, you cannot Grow without doing so. Most artists want to become better, & their work to evolve…Even those who create as a hobby, the satisfaction of achievement has no boundary! I’m still finding my voice as an artist, & have only been painting proffesionally the past year…(I worked as a graphic designer before I became ill a number of years ago & had to stop working.) I studied many subjects at Melbourne School of art, but graphics was the proffesion that provided instant income…& I had a child to provide for. This journey of my little sailor searching for the magic cherry blossom, comes from my journey…Where is my cherry blossom…Only time & hard work will tell. To my young & new artists, that follow me….Challenge yourself to draw/paint what you see, a 5min sketch can teach you so much…Dont get disheartened/frustrated…It takes time & practise, even the most naturally gifted artists need to learn about values, perspective etc. Most of all, enjoy the experience of learning…Be proud when you achieve something new. There’s lots of resources on the internet to learn to draw/paint from…YouTube tutorials, process sheets & tools like colour charts, & 3d models. It doesn’t matter what medium you are working in the basics are the same, value, form, perspective, lighting….Basics that are the foundation of every great piece of art.  If your serious, & hope to work in the industry…Find artists whose work you admire & are offering courses, preferably those who have the experience & expertise behind them, with good reviews on their classes….You don’t want to learn bad habits from an artist who doesn’t know the fundamentals. So on this note, go forth & practise, study, have fun & if your using my brushes…Show me, I love to see your work! Soon I will be adding a feature page & showing off a piece of your work each month. IMG_7174

Winters War

winters-war-finalThis is a piece I did for a class….winter landscapes are not the easiest thing to conjure when its mid summer here in Aus & im more the sun god worshiping type of girl! Winter is a time of hardship for many animals trying to find a meal…so threw in a couple of gorgeous predators tracking the same scent. I painted this completely by hand in Painter 2017……I love the organic feel of this software, it gives me a traditional feel to my work that ive transferred over from my fine art days. I will be adding some more giveaways soon & start work on a book im illustrating, so will have some fun WIPS to show you as i progress. Happy New Year to everyone, have fun & stay safe…..No drinking & driving!

Medusa Rising

Capturing the moment when Athena cursed Medusa, turning her from beauty to beast! Most of the brushes i used are from my palette give away, using Painter 2017. I tried a few sketches until i was happy with pose, then got stuck into painting her. Getting all my colours, values right i then moved onto the fun part, lighting & textures…. one of the new brush categories in Painter 2017 are texture brushes, they are brilliant….with plenty of scope to manipulate textures to wrap your subject not just lay on top. I decided on a shadowy scene, hiding in a grungy building as the rays of light fall on her scaley skin….. once completed i used a couple of particles to add the magic! Enjoy, she is available for purchase & will be entered in a couple of art competitions. For more details, or questions….im always happy to talk art, you can contact me through email, mobile, Facebook or Instagram. ❤️ 🦁🎨img_5974

Fantasy portrait – Cry Wolf

I’ve finished my little wolf girl, really had fun painting her. This is the first portrait that I’ve done purely from my imagination……let my mind just take me where it wanted without restrictions. This was personal, stemming from my Dads stories of the boy who cried wolf, &my love for predators esp those being hunted &poached to extinction.  She is the moon goddess, protecting the creatures of the night, the wolf is both her soulmate & protector. I love using Corel Painter, its an amazing program….feels so organic & easy to customise to suit your style. Painter 2017, has some awesome new brushes great for both traditional & pure digital artists alike……..if you haven’t tried it, jump on to their site & get a trial…..i know you will love it!  I used the mirror tool a lot in this, another first for me…will def use it more. I will be entering my wolfie girl in an upcoming exhibition, but im open to offers or inquiries on purchasing her. I hope she captures your heart, enjoy viewing her but please do not copy or reproduce her without my consent, sharing in social media is fine …..just make sure shes credited with a link to me……thanks muchly 😊❤ ©LionArt-Michelle Webbcry-wolf

Skelly, an artists friend!

Hi everyone….. I recently found an awesome app called ‘Skelly’ & had to grab it straight away….no longer do we need the wooden anatomy figures that grace many an artists studio, Skelly has us covered! A full skeleton with various pre programmed poses, plus the ability to move skelly into infinite silohettes with all the joints moving seperately makes this little app a must have for any artist that loves to paint the human form. Skelly can also be changed into a robotic looking version of the traditional wooden figure, with a chrome covering his bony bod! The app also features light source that can be moved to show various angles how light hits the body & creates shadows…. Check it out now, i think you’ll find it to be a great tool as i have- ❤️🦁🎨
