Hey all my lovely followers,
I hope your doing ok, these times are challenging with social distancing, job loses & worrying about family & friends health. I think it’s really important to find the things that make you happy & devote time to it. I’m lucky, art is my happy place & my income… So work wise things are humming along…my recent position as a Corel Painter Master has been very helpful in this respect, & also seeing rewards when you’ve been working hard is always satisfying. I try to put my emotions into my work… It’s a great way of facing the things that are bothering you & releasing them. What are you doing, Are you creating while in isolation? Is it helping you get through this? I really want to know what I can do to help you with this… Tutorials, articles… critique sessions? Would any of these things help you to move forward with creating. I’m currently working in a new project, here’s my rough…. What do you think the story is behind it? Let me know how your going!
Take care & stay safe, peace out -Lion
I had the best time hosting my webinar on my process creating a Movie poster in Painter 2020. The experience was made all the better having Tanya Lux from Corel there, fielding questions & helping fill out the dialogue in the moments I needed time to think about what I was doing.
I hope that everyone who attended enjoyed it & found it interesting, the time went so quickly, I felt like I could have done so much more…. so will have to keep it for next time! Here’s the recording if you missed it….
For now, keep safe…. make sure your aware what is happening in your country with Corona Virus & take care of your loved ones, Peace Out – Lion
Hey all, I’ve finally launched Lion’s Den Critique Group on Facebook, I’ve been thinking about it for a while, what I envision for this group & my members.
It’s foremost a group for digital artists to share heir work for critiquing… for artists really concentrating on growing & evolving, to work hard on the fundamentals of art. I’m happy for anyone of any skill level to join, but I want you to be aware that if you post your agreeing to having your work critiqued by myself & others in group. If you don’t have the confidence to be able to have your art critiqued honestly, this isn’t the group for you. This is not being mean, there are plenty of art groups you can post your work in to get likes etc.. in my Den, likes aren’t important….. learning & building your skills is the focus.
It is also a place where artists can share tutorials, tips & tools with members…. of you have a great set of brushes you’d like to give to others, or have members beta test before you sell I encourage you to do so… I also have no problem with posting links to your social media etc… I just ask that it’s included in a post about your work not just flat out advertising.
So jump on over & join my little group if it sounds right for you, I hope to see you there!

So a friend of mine sent me a link, I opened it & there’s my painting ‘Glimmer’ staring right back at me… Thanks Corel for using my painting in the release of Painter 2020 on DAO!
Software giants Corel have just released the next version of their flagship art programs Painter 2020! This brings with it upgrades in performance, more intuitive & sleeker UI with settings condensed to be more easily accessed, allowing faster workflow. The new GPU brush acceleration is a vast improvement, with brushes performing much faster at large sizes so there’s virtually no lag when working on huge canvases. One new tool is the Brush accelerator utility scorer tests your computer system, automatically applying optimal Painter settings allowing GPU & CPU to ensure Painter can move at lightning speed. This alone is worth the upgrade, but there is so much more including new colour Harmonies…a fantastic addition to Paintets colour management, colour Harmonies creates perfect palettes for your designs… Choose from complimentary, split complimentary, triadic, & monotones..you can lock these or create a new colour set to keep for further projects. The best thing is Corel offer a full one month trial, no catch, just download & use…once it’s finished either purchase or delete from your system (it timed out). I believe anyone who tries it, won’t be able to go back to previous versions! As a footnote, some of my artwork is featured on the website, software & in packaging of Disk set…however I am not compensated for reviewing Painter, these are purely my own opinions. Cheers -Lion
I’m so excited to share these brushes with everyone, I spent the last 2 years refining them into the perfect portrait set. I use these brushes for all my Painter artwork, esp my portraits. The core block in brushes are perfect for all subjects, combined with my concept & landscape sets… Well I think they are pretty amazing! I keep the prices down to make them accessible to everyone & don’t forget to grab my Short Cuts Palette, a free gift for signing up. I really hope you enjoy using them & please leave a review on the packs. Peace out – Lion
Right now until Nov 25th you can get my custom brush packs from Cubebrush for 10% off with code LIONART at Cubebrush Lion Art
Brushes from Concept 1 & Blenders packs used in this WIP below
Now added to Gumroad, my custom Blenders for Painter 2019! I’ve spent the last two years building this category of blenders to suit my every need, from silky smooth skin to oily textured brushstrokes for hair….These blenders are esp suited for portraiture, however are just as useful in other subjects such as landscapes. I hope you enjoy using them, & have more brush packs coming soon.
I received an email today from Adobe, announcing the release of full Photoshop CC for iPads…..not a watered down tablet version, the full program as an app. This is a game changer for several organisations…. firstly Savage- the Procreate gang, who’ve really held the monopoly of iPad artists, secondly Wacom…the Mobile Studio’s biggest selling point is Photoshop & Corel Painter…these full desktop programs can’t be used on tablets… third, is Corel, they really need to follow with Painter 2019 on IPad to stay in the game.. These are my opinions only of course, I bet there will be some worried faces in these 3 software & hardware giants boardrooms today…
I do want to add though I love my Wacom Cintiq, my iPad wont replace it as the size difference is to great, I love Corel Painter it’s still my favourite program by far, & I also love Procreate it’s a brilliant app to just get stuck into painting without all the unnecessary photo edit tools…. I do wonder if any of this will change when Photoshop CC for iPad’s released……
