The Next Level!
“The Journey” I painted inspired by a trip to Vietnam last year, has been chosen for Wacom & Just Another Agency’s ‘The Next Level’ Exhibition & Publication. I’m beyond excited, this is a 4 month exhibition showing in Melbourne, Sydney & Auckland, & the publication featuring all artists exhibited, will be available to purchase through Just Another along with prints of all exhibits. 56 artists from around the world, showcasing digital art created using Wacom Intuos or Cintiq’s. I will post further info closer to event.
Happy painting – Michelle
Just finished this & is available for purchase, painted completely by hand in Corel Painter 2017 on my Wacom Cintiq. This took me about 2 weeks to paint, many hours re assessing & fixing issues. I’m really happy with the finished piece. If your interested in purchasing her, contact me directly & there will only ever be the 1 produced, this is the original. There’s gold foil through her hair which doesn’t show well in jpg, view on large screen to appreciate the textures through. ©LionArtStudio
Sculpting in Painter 2017
As you guys know, I’m a firm believer in learning & studying regardless of how experienced you are. I’m currently doing form studies, particularly the human form (it’s always been the subject that I find most challenging) in between working on Fabulous Ferdi. Sculpting is the method from which we really are able to build form, so I’m working totally line & sketch free…Big brushes zoomed out with greyscale, no details (hair, clothes, Jewell’s etc) This forces me to use edges, these show the change in facial planes & provide contrast without the need of high contrasting values. I will paint this woman/girl over & over, the aim is to work on previous versions issues & see the progress from repeated study of same subject. While doing this I’ve begun developing a set of sculpting brushes for Painter 2017, however most will work with previous versions. They will be a set for both concept & portrait artists alike, tailored to produce clean edges & a couple of blenders to soften where smoother gradiation is needed. They & other sets will be available for purchase in a few months, once I’ve upgraded my site with a shop. Happy Sculpting! ☺️Day 1 – Form study challenge
Suminagashi- Digi Style!
This piece is the result of warming up today after time off work. Laying down colour & playing with brushes in Corel Painter 2017. The brushes are ones made by a couple of artists to use when wanting to create Suminagashi style pieces, abstract & can also be used in other styles of painting when wanting expressive brush strokes & a little freeness to your work. When this started to appear it really gave me the feeling of Aboriginal art, which is both graphic & organic & always has a story to tell. I saw some lizard shapes emerging & decided to embellish on that & added several geckos & made the background appear tree like. It never fails to amaze me how Painter emulates traditional mediums so well, its what really sets it apart from other art software. This was only painted by my hand, I used brushes & colour….In the same manner I do when painting traditionally. If you haven’t tried Painter there’s an option for 30 day trial, I promise you will find the experience to be truly awesome, & for professionals like myself a most valuable tool for your business.
Explore, challenge, grow…..This is what I try to achieve with each piece I paint. Exploring new styles, tools, subjects….Challenging myself with composition, lighting, textures & subject matter, you cannot Grow without doing so. Most artists want to become better, & their work to evolve…Even those who create as a hobby, the satisfaction of achievement has no boundary! I’m still finding my voice as an artist, & have only been painting proffesionally the past year…(I worked as a graphic designer before I became ill a number of years ago & had to stop working.) I studied many subjects at Melbourne School of art, but graphics was the proffesion that provided instant income…& I had a child to provide for. This journey of my little sailor searching for the magic cherry blossom, comes from my journey…Where is my cherry blossom…Only time & hard work will tell. To my young & new artists, that follow me….Challenge yourself to draw/paint what you see, a 5min sketch can teach you so much…Dont get disheartened/frustrated…It takes time & practise, even the most naturally gifted artists need to learn about values, perspective etc. Most of all, enjoy the experience of learning…Be proud when you achieve something new. There’s lots of resources on the internet to learn to draw/paint from…YouTube tutorials, process sheets & tools like colour charts, & 3d models. It doesn’t matter what medium you are working in the basics are the same, value, form, perspective, lighting….Basics that are the foundation of every great piece of art. If your serious, & hope to work in the industry…Find artists whose work you admire & are offering courses, preferably those who have the experience & expertise behind them, with good reviews on their classes….You don’t want to learn bad habits from an artist who doesn’t know the fundamentals. So on this note, go forth & practise, study, have fun & if your using my brushes…Show me, I love to see your work! Soon I will be adding a feature page & showing off a piece of your work each month.
Awesome artist model
Just wanted to share a really neat tool with you…. I don’t like to push products onto you, but know & again I’ll find something that’s really cool & useful!
Art models have been around for ever & are a great tool, helping with various poses when drawing figures, & seeing where light hits & shadows cast, but this goes one step further & also provides props, plus a stand for dynamic poses & movements…..Check it out, makes a great gift for arty friends or a terrific tool to keep handy in your studio.
Out with the lion & in with the lioness
I decided I should really have a lioness for my profile image, seeing as i’m Lion Art! So this was today’s project…what do you think…is she a keeper? Painted on my Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch, using Corel Painter 2017. Cant tell you enough how much i love Painter, & we all know Wacom kick but against other tablets. Tell me what you guys are using tablet & software wise…what do you want me to talk about on here, its about as all sharing knowledge as artists. I love feedback guys, you can email, comment, go through inquiry page or even call me….lets get some great topics going!
